This makes me want a silhoutte

Ahhh… I have a Cricut that I love, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t do this chevron pattern! This is an amazing free tutorial over at Tatertots and Jello (if you don’t already subscribe, you should!!).  Warning: it causes Silhouette envy!

test knitting

Lately, I have been seriously considering doing some test knitting. Only I have no idea how to go about contacting designers.  It would feed my love of new patterns and squishy, lovely yarns. I’m not sure how I would do if I had a deadline to finish something by, though. That might take some of the fun out of it.  And I’m not a big fan of frogging.  But test knitting might help me get to a point where I could write patterns of my own!!

Any suggestions for someone willing to work for yarn and what I make?

it’s a crazy week!

So far this has been a busy, busy week! Emma had her little friend over for a play date on Monday.  Tuesday we had a knitting night here. Wednesday I cleaned out the mess in the studio and Emma and I made it to our church dinner. Today my mother and I are making curtains. Friday is plan free at the moment. Saturday will have car shopping. And Sunday we have church and a family birthday party, not to mention our wonderful family will be here from Seattle!

Wonderful craziness! Hope your week goes well!

Kitchen Curtains…

Ah, curtains.  You present so many different types of dilemmas.

Take our huge kitchen window for example:

It is simply massive.  75 inches wide by 45 inches tall kind of massive.  I love sunshine and big windows, but windows that large are challenging to make or buy curtains for.

We do have one important factor in curtain making done, choosing and buying the fabric!

Despite the poor lighting, that’s pretty close to the true colors!  The light blue in the fabric is almost exactly the same shade as the walls. I love, love, LOVE it! It’s an Amy Butler print, of course. And I love just about anything she makes.

The fabric again, but including more of the room this time:

(just ignore the cake stand I stashed… 😉 )

So, the remaining question is: What type of curtain? I’ve narrowed down the options for you… Either Roman or Balloon shade.

(Roman shade is on top right, balloon bottom right.)

Roman shades fit inside the window frame and making them involves cut to size dowels and dowel pockets.  Which I find rather intimidating.  Awesome tutorial here.

Balloon shades have the same general construction, minus the intimidating elements… Tutorial here.

I’m also a little distracted by the straight clean lines, versus curvy edges. The curvy edges is what I love about our table, and I’m not sure if curtains would enhance or detract from the lines of the table.  Also, roman shades are traditionally made out of solid material.  Probably because people like me will obsess about the fold being even/level with the print.  And there’s also the fact that we want the shades to go up and down easily. (Our backyard slopes down towards the house and the people behind us can see in the house at night.)

My mom and I are deciding and diving into this project tomorrow, so hopefully sleeping on it will help me decide in the AM!

Simple joys

Ahh. My favorite flowers in my favorite vase! The flowers are mountain laurel, the vase is a thrifted, mineralized brown glass vase. It’s quite possibly my favorite thrifted item in our house! The combination makes my heart happy!!

Living room and Dinning room Reveal

Here is the dining room now!

Happy Sigh… We had the bookshelves custom made and they are deliciously deep.  I painted the original brass chandelier black and added mini shades. The art work on the wall behind the dinning room table is actually from a calendar.  And the sofa was an amazing find of my mother’s.  The sofa was $50 I think, and my mom found the fabric, a purple and black herringbone, at the Joann’s in town that has remnants.

Such a difference from the original state, right?
